Aluminium plates, also known as aluminium sheets, are basic raw form aluminium made into sheet form. Being sturdy, thin and lightweight, aluminium plates are used in a wide variety of industries and applications for its various properties. Coatings on aluminium plates can provide long-lasting materials for exterior use such as cladding, while the lightweight nature of very thin sheet aluminium makes it ideal for use in aluminium cans and other household products.
Uses of aluminium plate include marine, construction,manufacturing, transport, industrial, automotive, food processing, heavy machinery and airline industries.
Two of the most widely used grades of aluminium plate alloys are 1100 and 6061. AA1100 is commercially pure aluminium. It is soft and ductile and has excellent workability. It is ideal for applications involving intricate forming because it work hardens more slowly than other alloys. It is the easiest to weld among all aluminium plate alloys using any method, but is non-heat treatable. It has excellent corrosion resistance and is commonly used in the food processing and chemical industries.
AA6061 is the most versatile of all heat-treatable aluminium plate alloys, while maintaining most of the good qualities of aluminium. It offers a range of good mechanical properties and superior corrosion resistance. It can be welded and fabricated by many commonly used techniques and has good workability in the annealed condition. As a result, AA6061 is used in several products and applications, which require strength and corrosion resistance.
