Copper Nickel Plate and Foil chemical composition is 8.5 to 45% Ni, but so as to improve their specific properties, almost all commercial alloys of Copper Nickel Coil, also contain tin, iron and manganese. The Molecular Formula of Copper Nickel Strip is CuNi. The Machinability of Cupro Nickel Sheet (based on free-cutting brass = 100) is 20. Cuni Foil has an Elastic Modulus (C71500 annealed) of 22000 ksi (152 GPa). Cuni Sheets are used in a large number of industrial projects such as process equipment, fresh water preparation, condensers, solder frames, electrical resistors, oil coolers, housings for electrical sub-assemblies, propeller sleeves, refrigerators and heat exchanger components.
An alloy of Cupro Nickel Plate, CuNi30Fe2Mn2, is ideal for use for abrasive liquids, such as in dredgers. Cupro Nickel Coil melting point is 1171 °C (2140 °F). Cuni Strip has a Shear Modulus (C71500 annealed) of 8300 ksi (57.2 GPa). The Elongation at Break (annealed), is 40%. It has a Density of 0.323 lb/in³ (8.94 g/cm3). The Poisson’s Ratio of Cupro Nickel Strip (C71500 annealed) is 0.325. Other designations of equivalent materials to Cupro Nickel Foils are ASTM B552, ASTM B543 and ASTM B111.
